Even though I’m thrilled that Ellen Burstyn, star of the original “Exorcist” all those decades ago, is in the new one…TV/Streaming: I’m taking little bites of the new “Beckham” four-part series on Netflix. Not bad. They were right to get someone outside the soccer world — Fisher Stevens — to direct the thing…Books: The New York Times calls Elsa Morante’s reissued novel “Lies and Sorcery” a case of “Ferrante Before Ferrante” — an understandable description but a bit demeaning to Morante…Music: Mariah Carey’s attempt to feud with Cher over who “owns” Christmas — Cher has a holiday album coming out — is a pathetic attempt at publicity…Sports: I haven’t fully kicked in yet to either the new American football season or the new European season of soccer.
