Ruthie Ann Miles Returns As Imelda: Yes!

SO VERY HAPPY THAT MY FRIEND RUTHIE ANN MILES IS COMING BACK TO BROADWAY. SHE IS SUCH AN INSPIRATION!
In David Byrne’s “Here Lies Love,” in which she plays Imelda Marcos. There was an earlier run off-Broadway. I guess if the corrupt-as-hell Imelda herself can make a comeback (her family is back in power in the Philippines) then so can Ruthie’s version. A few years ago, Ruthie experienced a devastating traffic accident in which her four-year-old daughter and seven-month-old unborn baby were killed. Every time I hear the song “Unimaginable” from “Hamilton” I think of her. She and her husband, Jonathan, welcomed a new daughter during the worst days of the pandemic. They named her Hope. (Indeed.) Oh, and after she finishes playing Imelda she will be starring in an Encores! staging of Adam Guettel’s gorgeous musical “The Light in the Piazza,” which New York saw previously at Lincoln Center Theater. And Ruthie will be playing the role for which the luminous Victoria Clark won a Tony — and, this season, Victoria Clark will be Ruthie’s main Tony Award competition for Best Actress.
