Your Weekend: A Selective Guide

Movies: Starring Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins, “The Two Popes” is terrific…The whodunit “Knives Out” isn’t great but it’s watchable and has a game cast, led by a bourbon-voiced Daniel Craig. TV/Streaming: Lots of holiday gunk this long weekend so I think I will catch up with “Schitt’s Creek.” Music: Intriguing new CDs from Coldplay (“Everyday Life”) and Judy Collins (“Winter Stories”). Books: Of all the Best 10 Books of the Year in the NY Times, the only one I want to read is Leo Damrosch’s “The Club,” about 18th-century London. Sports: I’ll skip the Thanksgiving Day football and wait for all the NBA games on the rest of the weekend. Finally: Thanksgiving is the best American holiday because it’s about the best things: food and gratitude. Plus it’s not religious.
