The theme of last night’s Costume Institute gala was Camp, and Lady Gaga, in four outfits, and Billy Porter, as an Egyptian queen hoisted by hot guys, embodied that theme best. Otherwise, there were a lot of failed efforts. Andrew Bolton, who curated the accompanying Met exhibition, thinks that all costumes are camp, but they aren’t. A lot of the celebs costumes were silly not camp. And the theme, while potentially fun, scared off a lot of the athletes who normally attend the event. I noticed only Serena Williams and Alex Rodriguez.
