Your Weekend: A Selective Guide

Movies: “Black KKKlansman,” Spike Lee’s latest, won a big prize at the Cannes Film Festival, but I generally prefer his wonderful documentaries. As a canine owner it will be hard for me to resist “Dog Days.” TV/Streaming: The controversial new teen comedy “Insatiable” is now streaming on Netflix. “Chicago Voices,” featuring the musical talents of Renee Fleming, Jessie Mueller, and many others, airs Friday on PBS. Music: Tony Bennett and Diana Krall have a new album called “Love Is Here To Stay.” Books: I couldn’t make it through Walter Isaacson’s recent bio of Leonardo da Vinci, but I raced through Jonathan Jones’s “The Lost Battles: Leonardo, Michelangelo and the Artistic Duel That Defined the Renaissance.” Sports: The only sports in full swing right now are those — baseball, golf — that I switch on when I want to nap. Finally: “The world is full of magical things patiently waiting for our wits to grow sharper.” — Bertrand Russell
