4 Of Top 10 Albums Now Are Musicals
Four of the ten biggest-selling albums in the US this week are from musicals. Mamma Mia 2 is at #1, The Greatest Showman is at #2, the soundtrack to the original Mamma Mia film is at #4, and Hamilton is at #10. Note that this is actual album sales, not the Billboard 200, which also takes into account streaming. On the Billboard 200, the albums are at #3, #8, #21, and #22, respectively. The US album market has cratered immensely, and it kind of makes sense that musicals would do comparatively well, since a buyer might want the whole musical rather just stream certain songs.
