Your Weekend: A Selective Guide
Movies: Gabrielle Union is getting strong reviews for “Breaking In.” A new version of Chekhov’s “The Seagull” has a very appealing cast. TV/Streaming: On Friday, Live from Lincoln Center brings us a concert with Andrew Rannells, who, like my nephews, is a graduate of Creighton Prep. On Netflix, “Dear White People” has new episodes. On Sunday, there is a new adaptation of “Little Women,” which supposedly is less sweet than the usual candy-box treatment. Music: 85-year-old Willie Nelson is truly the “Last Man Standing.” Books: Kevin Kwan enlivens us “Crazy Rich Asians.” David Grann’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” is exemplary non-fiction. Sports: The Yankees are becoming the awesome power-and-pitching machine they were expected to be in pre-season. Finally: The rot in American politics set in a long time before Trump — but he pushed it along mightily!
