Your Weekend: A Selective Guide
Movies: My admiration for Annette Bening will probably induce me to see “Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool.” Shhh: I haven’t seen “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” yet, though I plan to. TV/Streaming: All three “Godfather” movies are now on Netflix. Sunday brings the Golden Globes on NBC. Music: I don’t recommend that you spend money to see “The Greatest Showman,” but the soundtrack is worth a listen…I never tire of listening to the guitar playing of Doc Watson. Books: Somehow, I’d never read Dickens’s “Dombey and Son,” and I’m happily remedying this gap in my literary education. And the marvelous thing about classic novels is that you can download most of them for free. Sports: My team in the NFL playoffs is the same as always: anyone but the Patriots. Finally: I swear that the word “January” in every language means: Season of Discarded Christmas Trees.
