Your Weekend: A Selective Guide
Movies: “The Post” for adults and fans of Meryl and Tom, “Jumanji” for you and the kids, “The Greatest Showman for musical mavens (though the reviews are stinko), “Pitch Perfect 3” for teenage girls (who don’t care about the lousy reviews), and “Star Wars” for everybody else. TV/Streaming: Like Hugh Bonneville — who played Lord Grantham on “Downton”? Then check out “Viceroy’s House” on Netflix. Over the holiday, I’m planning to binge on the following series: “Gomorrah,” “Ozark,” and “Get Shorty.” Music: I have a confession: I haven’t minded all the holiday music this year. At least not the full-choir kind of Christmas stuff or the kitschy, old-school stuff. I still rush right out of stores that play the cheesiest carols, however. Books: I plan to catch up on Jennifer Egan’s “Manhattan Beach,” Elif Batuman’s “The Idiot,” and Sherman Alexie’s “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me.” Sports: In the spirit of the seasonal binges, I plan to watch a lot of soccer this weekend, especially Premiere League. Arsenal vs. Liverpool: Woo-hoo! Finally: I hope that wherever you are this holiday that you stay safe and find some happiness. If you’re traveling, smooth sailing. If you’re staying home, lucky you!
