Your Weekend: A Selective Guide
Movies: The “Kingsman” sequel will be the weekend’s hit, but I want to see Emma Stone as Billie Jean King in “Battle of the Sexes.” TV/Streaming: I’m still recovering from Ken Burns’s “Vietnam,” so I think I’ll opt for lighter fare this weekend: the “Ballers” finale on Sunday and a “Golden Girls” marathon on Sunday on Hallmark. Music: Foo Fighters give us some “Concrete and Gold.” What? You don’t know Kay Starr’s early jazz recordings? Sample her “Bonaparte’s Retreat” here. Books: Geez: Simon & Schuster didn’t even have the courtesy to credit the writer of Tom Brady’s new book, “The TB12 Method.” George Steiner’s “Tolstoy or Dostoevsky” can be slow-going, but I’m learning things! Sports: It’s crazy, but I’m now watching the most obscure Italian soccer teams on the weekend: current favorite is Bologna. Finally: I thought autumn was supposed to begin this weekend — not in New York!
