Your Weekend: A Selective Guide
Movies: “The Glass Castle” is based on a highly readable book by Jeannette Walls. I love the title: “Ingrid Goes West.” TV/Streaming: On Friday, PBS re-airs “Shakespeare Live!” Sunday brings the finale of “I’m Dying Up Here.” Music: All this week, I’ve been listening to Barbara Cook, and nothing beats her Carnegie Hall album. Books: I didn’t think I’d make it far in Liz Fenton’s novel “The Good Widow” — but I read the whole thing. Amy Clampitt is one of my favorite poets, and her Collected Poems is a wonderful place to make her acquaintance. Sports: Spike Lee will be holding a rally on August 23rd in NYC in support of Colin Kaepernick. Finally: “Take pains. Be perfect” — from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
