It’s hard to give a full three cheers for the news that Paris will host the 2024 Summer Games and Los Angeles those in 2028. I mean, they were basically the only cities who wanted them. The Olympics have become a giant, expensive sewer of corruption, draining public monies for the benefit of a few athletes and corporations. And the facilities often stand empty after the crowds have gone. Latest example: the buildings in Rio. Only a year after the Brazil-hosted games, the infrastructure decays.
