“Moonlight” Director Takes On Baldwin
I’ve always wondered why there is no film adaptation of James Baldwin‘s classic novel “Giovanni’s Room.” In the meantime — and this is terrific news — Barry Jenkins (pictured) is set to direct an adaptation of “If Beale Street Could Talk,” marking his first feature film since his hit “Moonlight†won this year’s best picture Oscar. Based on the novel by Baldwin, “If Beale Street Could Talk,†the story follows Tish, a newly engaged Harlem woman who races against the clock to prove her lover’s innocence while carrying their first born child. It is a celebration of love told through the story of a couple.
