New “Virginia Woolf” Gets Raves
Just opened in London, the Albee play is racking up five-star reviews. It spotlights Imelda Staunton (pictured), whose recent string of theater — Mrs. Lovett, Mama Rose — is not exactly long on subtlety. Her “Gypsy” is coming to Broadway next year, but, frankly, having seen it on PBS, I found it an unbearably relentless characterization.
