This Year’s Oscars: Parallels From The Past
I was going to extol Viola’s speech and Michael J. Fox’s appearance and Jimmy Kimmel‘s hosting and Justin Timberlake’s opening and the appearance of Katherine Johnson and so much more, but they all pale pale pale in contrast to that insane ending. I’m so happy that “Moonlight” won! As LW’s Oscar maven Rex Okpodu pointed out before the ceremony, a likely past parallel for this year was 1972, when a musical (“Cabaret“) won the most awards with eight but a drama (“The Godfather”) won best picture along with an acting award and a screenplay accolade — just like “Moonlight.”
