Sunday TV Scorecard: Heads Of Churches
“Victoria” and “The Young Pope” premiered last night. Both tell the stories of lavishly living heads of Christian churches that own billions in assets while these churches profess devotion to the poor: both figures flunk the hypocrisy test. But “Victoria,” about the early years of Queen Victoria, was engaging and stately (Grade: A-). “The Young Pope” was odd and pretentious and hard-to-credit, telling the story of an American (Jude Law) who becomes Pope — the episode didn’t bother to tell us how. (Grade: F). “Homeland” also premiered last night, but I stopped watching after season 2 so don’t expect me to resume now.
