“Go Naked In The World”: Va-Va-Va-Voom!
In the good-bad old days, before the human form could be shown onscreen in its entire splendor, moviegoers had to make do with partial glimpses of beauty. One of my favorite is this shot of Gina Lollobrigida (still alive at age 89) from a 1961 picture with the jaw-dropping title “Go Naked in the World.” Even more jaw-dropping: her costar was Ernest Borgnine. Plot: In post-war San Francisco, Pete (Borgnine) wants his son Nick (Tony Franciosa) to marry a nice Greek girl, the daughter of a business associate, but Nick falls in love with Guilietta Cameron (Lollobrigida). He takes her as his date to his parents’ wedding anniversary full of members of the Greek immigrant community. Pete reveals to him in no uncertain terms that Guilietta is a prostitute, whose services Pete and many of his friends, who are present at the party, have purchased.
