Movies: I do not recommend Ben Affleck’s “Live by Night.” I do recommend Mark Wahlberg’s “Patriots Day.” TV/Streaming: Netflix brings us Lemony Snickety “A Series of Unfortunate Events.”…Friday brings “Bel Canto The Opera,” based on a hostage crisis in Peru. Books: A best-selling novel called “The Bette Davis Club” doesn’t appear to have much to do with Bette Davis. Music: I found the music in “La La Land” pretty tame, but the download is tops on Amazon…If you’ve never heard the high notes reached by singer Mado Robin you haven’t lived! Eat your heart out, Yma Sumac! Sports: The Giants are out of the playoffs, so I’m for any team playing the Pats or the Cowboys. Finally: I always forget how much I like January — the calm after the holiday storm.
