“Double Crossbones” Keeps Hope Alive
Fresh off her performance as the sadistic prison matron Evelyn Harper — one of the greatest turns in the history of Hollywood — in the 1950 masterpiece “Caged,” Hope Emerson appeared in the 1951 flick “Double Crossbones.” She got to caper with Donald O’Connor, who, years later, described the movie as “one of the worst pictures ever made.” He went on the next year to better fare: “Singing in the Rain.” But any movie with Hope in it is a movie I want to see. It’s available on Amazon. [I must thank my friend Dee Sushi for “turning me on” to this gem.]
