It wasn’t the first Bergman film I saw: that was “Cries and Whispers” (I was the sole patron in a cinema in Yankton, South Dakota.) But “Persona” was one of the two that affected me most deeply. Here, we learn about the process by which Bergman wrote the movie, and worked with its luminous stars, Bibi Andersson and Liv Ullmann.
