“Golden Girls” Puppet Parody To Open


“The Golden Girls” is hitting the stage, albeit with a certain Muppet-like flair. “That Golden Girls Show” is a puppet parody of the beloved ’80s sitcom. Opening next week off-Broadway in New York, Blanche, Rose, Dorothy, and Sophia are coming back, seeking to appeal to ardent fans and newcomers alike. “Get set for an evening of cheesecake, laughter, Jazzercise, shoulder pads, sex, and the elegant art of the quick-witted put down,” the show’s site reads. Writer-director Jonathan Rockefeller the man behind “That Golden Girls

Show”; the artist put on another Golden Girls puppet parody in Australia, “Thank You for Being a Friend,” which put the Girls in modern day. Rockefeller also produced the off-Broadway adaptation of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show.” He believes the quartet has resonance over 24 years since the show’s conclusion.
