The musical of “Groundhog Day,” the 1993 comedy directed by Harold Ramis, has opened in London to strong reviews for Matthew Warchus, its director, Tim Minchin, its composer, and Andy Karl, in the Bill Murray role. Once upon a time, Sondheim wanted to tackle this adaptation, and, in private, still occasionally says he wishes that he had. But there’s a problem: “Groundhog Day” has a very happy ending.
