Dubbing Queen Marni Nixon Dead
Often heard but rarely seen, silver-throated Marni Nixon has died at age 86 of breast cancer. Her lovely soprano voice was use to dub over more famous actresses in classic Hollywood film versions of Broadway musicals, notably Natalie Wood in “West Side Story,” Deborah Kerr in “The King and I,” and, most famously, Audrey Hepburn in “My Fair Lady.” Rarely seen on screen, she became the queen of dubbing during Hollywood’s golden age.
