Tonys: What You Didn’t See


This year’s Tony Awards were filled with plenty of show-stopping performances, from “Hamilton” and “Shuffle Along” to “The Color Purple” and “Spring Awakening.” But one of the most magical performances didn’t air on TV, occurring instead during a commercial break. While those of us at home were stuck watching commercials, presenters Jake Gyllenhaal and Sean Hayes joined host James Corden on stage at the Beacon Theatre for an impromptu rendition of “A Whole New World” from “Aladdin.” Hayes later posted a video of their performance on Facebook, writing that Corden asked the audience for volunteers to fill the breaks with “commercial karaoke.”
