Savor This Pic: It Won’t Occur Next Year
It was an historic night at the Tonys for many reasons, chiefly for the sweep of the actor/musical categories by black performers. But next season on Broadway looks considerably whiter: the most buzzed-about musicals are “Dear Evan Hansen,” “Spongebob,” “Hello, Dolly!“, and “Groundhog Day.” The leading role in all those productions will be played by a white person. It should be noted that “Spongebob” and “Groundhog Day” both have actresses of color in main roles.
