Valentino, Coppola Do “Traviata” In Rome

Valentino, who at 84 is looking as immaculately shellacked as ever (see here), has designed the costumes for the new production of “La Traviata” at the opera in Rome. The staging is directed by Sofia Coppola. Tickets are going fast because of Valentino and Coppola, not because of any singers in the cast. Is this the death of opera (who cares who’s singing?) or has opera been dying as an art form for so long that such questions are pointless at this point?
