Since his career turned toxic Mel Gibson hasn’t made many movies and those that he has haven’t been hits. This may be about to change. His upcoming feature, “Hacksaw Ridge,” has been testing well. It stars former Spider-Man Andrew Garfield as a Second World War medic named Desmond T Doss: the first conscientious objector to win the Medal of Honor (the US’s most prestigious military award). Mel’s conservative audience — “The Passion of the Christ” crowd — may flock to this one.
