Cuba Holds 1st Big Fashion Show Since 1959

In a sign that the bourgeois, decadent, capitalist apocalypse has officially arrived, the fashion house Chanel has staged a show in Havana, marking the first event of its kind in the country since the communist revolution in 1959. The French line’s “cruise collection” was displayed, despite the fact that Chanel products aren’t sold in Cuba. Celebrities attended the show while ordinary Cubans were forced behind police lines. Karl Lagerfeld, who designed the pieces, said he was inspired by Cuba’s “cultural richness.” [photo: Alexandre Meneghini/Reuters]
