“Shuffle Along”: Just As I Told You
I’ve been telling people for weeks that the first act of “Shuffle Along,” the new musical that opened last night on Broadway, has a dazzling first act and a disappointing second act. The reviews are now out, and they mostly agree with me. Many reviewers give a kinder overall assessment than I do: great shows don’t have bad second acts. (That’s why “Sunday in the Park with George,” for example, is not a great show.) If money were no object, the height of chic would be to attend the first act of “Shuffle” and then leave and beat the dinner crowd. Trust me, you wouldn’t be missing much.
