“Fingersmith” Adaptation From South Korea
Sarah Waters’ novel “Fingersmith,” a 2002 Victorian-era crime novel with lesbian overtones, has already been adapted for the stage and for a 2005 BBC series starring Imelda Staunton and Sally Hawkins. Now, Park-Chan-wook, who has been called “the South Korean Brian DePalma, uses the material for “The Handmaiden,” a competition entry at Cannes.
