Teens Injured By “Sweeney Todd” Razors

This was the most unkindest cut of all. During a high-school production of “Sweeney Todd” in New Zealand, the razors used by the vengeful barber to cut the throats of his victims actually turned out to be real. Two 16-year-old students had their necks cut and were bleeding during the musical production on opening night. They were hospitalized but have since been discharged. One suffered serious injuries. The head of the school called it a “very unfortunate mishap,” adding that the allegedly blunted prop implement had been used at eight dress rehearsals without incident. I’m not sure what’s crazier: that they used a real razor or that they got eight dress rehearsals.
