The Coens’ “Caesar!”: Droll Or Deadly?
Variety looks at “Hail, Caesar,” and enthuses: “The Coen brothers deliver a gorgeously crafted romp through vintage Hollywood in this droll and ruminative entertainment.’ But THR insists: ‘As a comedy about early 1950s Hollywood, the Coen brothers’ “Hail, Caesar!” has trouble achieving lift-off, and even then can barely manage to stay airborne much longer than Howard Hughes’ Spruce Goose.’ The cast includes George Clooney and Channing Tatum.
