“Gotta Dance” Opens In Chicago
I’m addled as to why “Gotta Dance,” the new musical directed by Jerry Mitchell and which opened last night in Chicago, doesn’t have an exclamation point. Why does “On Your Feet!”, the previous musical directed by Mitchell, get one but not a show about a senior-citizen dance team? Reviews for “Gotta Dance” are positive but Chris Jones, in the Chicago Tribune, lays out all the problems with this evening. Everyone agrees that Georgia Engel (pictured) — you know, Georgette from the old “Mary Tyler Moore” program — steals the show.
