There Will Always Be A Maggie Smith

There are many hilarious tales in Michael Coveney‘s updated and re-issued “Maggie Smith: A Biography.” Adults know her as the Dowager on “Downton,” but children recognize her as Minerva McGonagall from the “Harry Potter” movies. At the supermarket recently, a little boy asked her, “Were you really a cat?” She looked down at him and said: “Just pull yourself together, will you?” After all her years of fame, Coveney reports that the 80-year-old Maggie still drives herself everywhere, does her own food shopping, and has no live-in help. Given her withering reputation, I doubt any cleaning lady would last a day.
