“Lazarus”: My FT Review

The Financial Times has posted my review. Bottom line: ‘David Bowie has long been drawn to odd characters such as Ziggy Stardust and the vampire from The Hunger, but the alien coolness of these creatures has been enlivened by cinematic effects or live-performance intensity. In “Lazarus,” the new musical written by Bowie and Enda Walsh, the usual aliveness of alien adventures has been damped down. The audience is left with a set of splendid images, stirring music drawn mostly from the Bowie catalogue, and a chilly, dramatic inertness.’ Pictured are Michael C. Hall and Sophia Anna Caruso.
