Streisand To Direct “Catherine The Great”: Opening Number Is “I Am The Greatest Tsar”
The “Gypsy” movie is on semi-permanent hold, so Miss Barbra is turning her attention to directing a biopic about Russian empress Catherine the Great. The story focuses on the young, sensual Catherine trapped in an abusive relationship — Russian history as feminist parable, I guess. I would have thought Streisand would have been more interested in looking at the older, powerful Catherine — she could have played that role herself. Maybe she’ll play the part anyway.
