“Important Hats”: My FT Review

The Financial Times has posted my review of a new off-Broadway play. To wit: ‘My grandmother used to say that civilisation ended the day women allowed themselves to be seen from the street while having pedicures. Sam Greevy (played by Carson Elrod, pictured), the young New York designer in “Important Hats of the Twentieth Century,” a Manhattan Theatre Club production, would probably date the decline from the night women started wearing flats to the opera. Whatever the precise moment, relaxation of standards is the theme at the heart of Nick Jones’s new play. Witty, inventive, yet antic to the point of exhaustion, this two-hour evening embeds weighty cultural discussion in the folds of its silk bodice.’
