Gena On Watching Rushes With Bette Davis
Over the weekend, Gena Rowlands received an honorary Oscar. (Spike Lee did too, and his speech was thoughtful about Hollywood needing to wake up to the fact that the world and its moviegoers aren’t mostly white anymore; Debbie Reynolds got a ding, too, but is recovering from surgery so sent her granddaughter, the talented and lovely Billie Lourd, to accept it.) The best part of Rowlands’ speech is when she talks about watching dailies with Bette Davis. That anecdote starts around the 2:05 mark.
