According to The Guardian, John Seabrook‘s new book, “Song Machine,” ‘describes how technology has industrialised pop songwriting and production, with vocal performances “comped” together digitally, syllable by syllable, from multiple takes, and whole teams of people writing different melodies over the same backing track. This is a method known as “track and hook” – Seabrook reports that the songwriter Ryan Tedder got into hot water over this when Kelly Clarkson noticed that the song he’d given her, “Already Gone,” was uncomfortably close to one he’d done with Beyoncé, “Halo.”‘
