Marvelous: The Portraits Of Penn
The acclaimed photographer Irving Penn (1917-2009) had a serious eye for style, turning Salvador DalÃ, roosters, bumblebees and even blocks of frozen beans into high fashion icons. “Beyond Beauty” at the Smithsonian is Penn’s first retrospective in two decades. On display will be 146 photographs, including the debut of 100 photographs donated to the museum by The Irving Penn Foundation. Also on view will be Super 8 mm films of “Penn in Morocco,” made by his wife Lisa Fonssagrives-Penn.
