“Stonewall” Churns Up Controversy
The upcoming “Stonewall” movie has a script by Jon Robin Baitz, whom I know, so I wish it well. Plenty of other people, who saw the movie at the Toronto film festival, are negative. One of them writes: The movie’s director, Roland Emmerich, ‘was asked by Buzzfeed about the controversial decision the film makes to fictionalize the story of the Stonewall riots. You know, how he putt the queer and transpeople of color so central to a real-life event in the background and putting a fictional cisgender white boy at the story’s center. His answer is somehow more offensive than “Stonewall”‘s awful filmmaking.’ Ouch. Emmerich and Baitz defend their approach in this story.
