Your Weekend: A Selective Guide
Movies: Does anyone think “90 Minutes in Heaven” will be 90 minutes in heaven? “Paul Taylor: Creative Domain” is a documentary about an American dance master. Television: Just in time for the fall political campaigning, “Real Time with Bill Maher” returns on Friday with a new episode. It’s okay to watch “Miss America” on Sunday: it’s a pageant never owned by Donald Trump. Music: How wonderful that, 60 years after its release, Erroll Garner’s “Concert by the Sea” is still, in a newly discovered concert recording, a bestseller. Books: Bill Clegg’s novel “Did You Ever Have a Family” packs a punch. (Though I don’t approve of the title having no question mark!!!) Sports: The Giants are a heavy underdog in their season opener against the Cowboys. But low expectations can produce pleasant surprises. And at least the Giants aren’t known to be cheaters. Finally: I like most things about autumn, except how pumpkin flavoring takes over everything.
