Big Fun: Jen Hudson As Aretha
Aretha originally wanted to be played, in the upcoming biopic, by Halle Berry, to which I say, in my best Jennifer Holliday “Dreamgirls” grunt, “Hunh, hunh!” Much more appropriate than Miss Halle will be the actress who did Holliday’s part, to Oscar acclaim, in the “Dreamgirls” movie: Jennifer Hudson. She’s been a big girl, like Aretha has, and she’s got a great voice, like Aretha has (had). The long-gestating Aretha biopic will reportedly focus on Franklin’s rise to fame throughout the 1960s and into the 70s and will also include her relationship with abusive ex-husband Ted White.
