Cumberbatch’s First “Hamlet”: Details

I don’t think it’s quite cricket for The Telegraph’s drama critic to, essentially, review Benedict Cumberbatch‘s performance as Hamlet based on the first preview. For God’s sakes, give the man a week or two to settle in before passing judgment. I know, I know: this is a media phenomenon so why not report on it? But Dominic Cavendish’s story wasn’t just a pure report. I would be — am — grateful for that. In this production Cumbie delivers the “To be or not to be” soliloquy at the beginning, not in Act III. He does this while Nat King Cole‘s “Nature Boy” plays.
