“Ubu Roi”: My FT Review

The Financial Times has posted my review of “Ubu Roi,” a production at the Lincoln Center Festival. Bottom line: ‘I have seen “Ubu Roi,” Alfred Jarry’s 1896 proto-absurdist play about a tyrant, used to deconstruct everyone from Idi Amin to Ceausescu, with my favourite production taking on Haiti’s 20th-century dictator Papa Doc and his son, Baby Doc. In Declan Donnellan’s amusing, slightly exhausting production…father and son are part of a modern-day French bourgeois family.’
