“God Called Me To Play That Role”
That’s what the actor David Oyewolo said in L.A. this week to a conference on faith-and-family-based entertainment. He was speaking about playing Martin Luther King, Jr., in the movie “Selma.” Oyewolo is a very fine actor, but you don’t have to be a skeptic or a cynic to roll your eyes a little when any famous person says “God called me” about anything. Plenty of serial killers have used the same justification for their actions. Why not just give thanks, Mr. Oyewolo, to the universe in general for your good fortune without dragging some deity into it?
