Will Rooney Be Run As Supporting?
Rooney Mara‘s co-win as Best Actress at Cannes for her performance in “Carol” may throw a wrench in Harvey Weinstein’s next Oscar campaign. The thinking was that Rooney’s costar, Cate Blanchett, would be presented as Best Actress and Rooney in Best Supporting Actress, where she would have a real shot at winning. But the Cannes win points up the fact that the women’s roles in this 1950s lesbian romance are equally important; in fact, there’s a valid argument that Rooney’s character is the primary mover of the action. Over to you, Mr. Weinstein!
