“Nozze Di Figaro”: Charming
What a treat it was the other night to see and hear Juilliard Opera‘s production of Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro.” Stephen Wadsworth, who directed, has long been obsessed with the Beaumarchais cycle of three Figaro plays, one of which, “Le Mariage de Figaro,†gave birth to Mozart’s opera. For me, the standout performances were given by Ying Fang (left), impish and clear-toned as Susanna, and Thesele Kemane (right), deep-voiced and comically gifted as Figaro. Fang is already a Met Opera regular, and I look forward to Kemane’s debut at the same house.
