“Far From The Madding Crowd”: Review
THR’s Todd McCarthy tries hard to make the latest adaptation of the Thomas Hardy novel, starring Carey Mulligan and Matthias What’s-his-hame, sound involving, but I suspect that the Variety review is closer to the mark: This ‘pared-down if generally faithful adaptation benefits from a solid cast and impeccable production values, though the passions that drive Hardy’s characters remain more stated than truly felt.’
