Jude To Play The First American Pope

I’m chortling over the news that Jude Law (pictured) has been tapped to play the lead role in Italian Oscar-winning director Paolo “The Great Beauty” Sorrentino’s high-concept TV series, working-titled “The Young Pope,” about an imaginary pontiff who is the first Italian-American pope in history. What amuses me is not that the Pope will be American but the plot itself: a hard-line conservative American pontiff is recruited by a Vatican fed up with liberals. Since when is the Roman church a hotbed of liberals?
